We feel like we’re in a wonderful dream that we don’t want to wake up from. Every morning we are woken up by the chirping of tropical birds and warm rays of sunshine peeking through the windows into our room. We do our yoga, enjoy fresh tropical fruit and drink real coffee that we brought back from Vietnam. During the day we write our stories, in between we go swimming in the lukewarm waters of the Gulf of Thailand and play his favorite game ‘catch the ball’ with our Ajaci in the shallow sea water. In the evening, we hang out in a quaint beach bar, drink a few beers, enjoy the delicious food and the sunset in all its color nuances. Most of the time, however, we don’t move far, because there are hardly any tourists here at the end of the beach. We live a life like Robinson Cruso, only with a good portion of luxury on top.

“Good morning Brrrrrother. Can I get you something?” asks the waiter. “But yes, Brrrrrother. A cold beer wouldn’t be bad.” “Hmmmmpfff,” the three of us snort with laughter. Because we can’t pronounce each other’s names properly, Tanja suggested we call our waiter Brother. Because he is a funny young man, he turned it into Brrrrother with an eternally long rolling ‘R’. That’s why we call ourselves Brrrrothers at every opportunity. “Brrrrother, it’s my birthday tomorrow. Can I invite you?” Tanja and I look at each other and immediately agree. “Of course Brrrrother, we’d love to come.” “Oh, that’s great Brrrrother. It’s going to be a great party with lots of alcohol. The most important thing is that everyone is drunk in the evening.” We are not sure whether we will comply with this request, but we are certainly honored to have been invited by our Brrrrother. The following evening, we are the only foreign guests. Hardly any of those present speak English, so communication is difficult. Nevertheless, we have a great evening. So the days on the paradise beach fly by, as they so often do when it’s too good to be true. After three weeks, our time is ended by the expiry of our visas. We decide to cycle the route we have cycled so far back to Vietnam in order to re-enter Cambodia. This time we want to apply for a business visa at the border. This can then be extended for up to one year without having to leave the country again. This saves us having to leave the country repeatedly. We don’t yet know where we will go from there. We have decided to re-plan the itinerary after receiving our business visas…
