I’m glad to have a few rest days, which are also so-called writing days, and I’m happy to be able to rest. My body is completely swollen. We put this down to the enormous effort involved. I can only guess at my ankles and a glance in the mirror scares me a little. After two days, this subsides and my spirits are revived. Now we are allowed to take our Sumu bikes to a room near our room. There I can clean the chains on our bikes with complete peace of mind. I feel really lucky when I can put all our laundry in one of the washing machines here and have it washed. The women from the accommodation here are very nice and helpful. I enjoy the free time and read my favorite book, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, and let my thoughts wander.
Denis writes down our experiences throughout the day in a focused and disciplined manner. It is 32 degrees when the curtains are closed. On the windowsill in the sun 61 degrees. We light incense sticks to cover up the smell of the bradhandles that are constantly being grilled in the supermarket. The exhaust pipe from the grill ends right in front of our window. Denis can’t sleep at night because of the constant loud humming. The train passes by and it sounds as if a freight train is running without interruption. There are two noises: actually the freight train but also the air conditioning fan from the supermarket below us. I feel better there, I can sleep almost anytime and anywhere. I can also escape our accommodation again and again. When I look out of the window, it’s raining heavily, hoping that summer doesn’t want to say goodbye again after just 2 ½ weeks.
