Immediately after feeding the camels, Tanja and I look for suitable posts not far from the paddocks. The site is like a treasure trove, with iron and plastic pipes, wooden posts, old cars, cables, tires, sheet metal, wood and much more lying around everywhere. As on every farm, there is a place where everything that you might need again is stored. After a short time we find what we are looking for and discover two three-meter-long iron pipes. I then get a wheelbarrow, cement from a barn next to the workshop, pebbles and sand from the farm track and move everything into the training enclosure. I dig two holes about one meter deep, 30 meters apart, slide the heavy single pole into them with Tanja’s help and mix the cement that I pour into the hole. After just two hours, two large, massive training posts protrude from the ground, waiting for the cement to make them so stable that even the strongest camel bull has no chance of tearing them out of the ground. Istan watches us in amazement, runs over to take a closer look and quickly rubs the still wobbly pipe.
At 4 pm we feed the camels. Jasper, who has obviously recovered from yesterday’s sluice experience, stretches his neck so close to Tanja’s face that she is tickled by the fine hairs on his muzzle. “Did you see that?” she asks in delight. “Yes, he doesn’t seem to hold yesterday’s action against us,” I reply and am more than satisfied with the way things are going.
