The terrible night and the view out of the window act as a terrible motivation killer for me. None of yesterday’s zest remains. The cars leave a smacking trail across the dark asphalt directly beneath our window. The village church has lost its golden glow in the evening. We had actually decided to cycle from here to Pratislava to spend the night at the Hotel Krone. “The city is very expensive. You’re unlikely to find cheap accommodation there. I’ve been working as an engineer in Slovakia for years and know my way around Pratislava. Why do you think I set up camp here in Hainburg?” one of the guests asked us during dinner, convincing us to use Hainburg as a base.
Watching the rain shower, our ingenious plan literally falls through. “Maybe I should use the time here to write about the past few days. We could go into town tomorrow with our luggage and find time to look for accommodation a little further out,” I suggest. “I was just about to make a similar suggestion,” Tanja replies, which seals the deal on our change of plans.
