After yesterday’s mammoth 161-kilometre drive, we lie in our lovely beds as if exhausted and enjoy the clean room. We are glad not to feel the cold wind of the Dracula Hotel here and above all happy not to have to endure a constant involuntary shower in the toilet. The working heating in the room is a blessing. After the cold days, we appreciate the achievements of civilization more than ever. We use the beautiful place with its fantastic view of the Danube, which has been dammed to form a lake, for our work and above all to rest ourselves and our injuries. We would love to stay longer but the tight schedule pushes us on. We have to be in Bucharest in a few days to catch the train to Germany in time. As something unforeseen can always come up on a trip like this, it is even important to have a few buffer days. Well, I could do without my updates and save a lot of time. But from our point of view, it would not be fair to leave you, dear reader, in the dark as to whether or not we will achieve our self-imposed goal of the first stage.

Before we leave our found paradise, I check the bikes for any defects, repair Tanja’s light and am relieved not to find any flat tires. After all the shards of glass we’ve rolled over on the almost 3000 kilometers, it’s a miracle that I still haven’t had to complain about a single puncture. I would never have thought it possible that Schwalbe is able to produce such tires that are almost impossible to break. So far at least, we are more than satisfied with the Marathon XR.

We look forward to your comments!
