When our tent was set up and tidied away, Tanja hobbled up a nearby mountain. Up there, as we remembered from last year, you could log into the cell phone network. “I will inform Bilgee of our arrival at his former yurt site,” she said.
Bilgee promised to visit us at the camp and help us sell the horses. That was the reason why the camp 40 kilometers before Erdenet was our last one on this trip.
Although we reached our destination, it was still necessary to maintain our guard shifts. There could also be horse thieves here. At night, the beam of light from my headlamp was reflected by a large number of glowing eyes. Herds of horses and cattle stood behind it, surrounding our tent.
As expected, the horse sale went better than expected. Bilgee called his friends, some of whom showed up. The shepherd Ilhauchauu wanted to buy our entire small herd. But Bilgee was also interested in the mare Naraa and her foal Tuya. Because we still owed Bilgee a salary from the taiga, we gave him the mare and her foal in return. He and we were very happy with this solution. My Sar was bought by a relative of Bilgee to herd sheep and goats. I have never had such an excellent, loyal and well-behaved mount on any of our expeditions. Because it was harder than I expected to say goodbye, I felt the tears of an unforgettable and irretrievable time rolling down my cheeks.
In further sales talks with Ilhauchauu, Sharga, Bor and Tenger changed hands. Ilhauchauu promised us that he would not take the horses to the slaughterhouse but would use them as riding and working animals. That’s how the miracle happened for us. Within just 10 days, all of our horse companions found a new home.
