LINK TO THE ITINERARY

Dear readers of our travel diary,

First of all, we would like to thank you for your interest in our experiences. It is a wonderful feeling for us to be on this journey with you.

In the last 25 years of our great journey, we have often spent the Christmas season in foreign countries and exotic places. This time we are in Xian, the former capital of China. Looking out of the window of our hostel, we see small stalls selling everything a Chinese tourist loves, needs or often doesn’t need. There are hardly any cars in this narrow lane and the architectural style of the houses takes us back to China’s past. Some of the Chinese hang a birdcage in a tree or on the balcony, in which songbirds are constantly chirping. You could be forgiven for thinking that spring is coming, even though it’s been winter here for weeks and will be for months to come. It’s cold with temperatures around minus 1 degree Celsius and no snow has fallen here yet. Even though some Chinese people decorate their stores for Christmas and the odd Christmas carol is played over the loudspeakers, we find it hard to get into the German Christmas spirit. The culture here is simply too different, too foreign for that. But the mixture is interesting and so are our feelings. We experience an exotic Christmas that will certainly remain unforgettable for us in its own way.

With this in mind, we wish you and your family a wonderful, peaceful and traditional Christmas.
