Although the hotel staff only welcomed us with great skepticism last night, they don’t want to let us go today. Ajaci has conquered their hearts in no time at all, enjoying extensive cuddles and endless photo sessions. “But now we really have to go”, I urge them to leave because it’s already 10 a.m. and we never know what the day has in store for us. However, we make great progress and reach the town of Zitong with its impressively beautiful promenade without any challenges.

After the usual and yet always different procedure, we settled back into the local accommodation. Famished, we are on the lookout for a restaurant. We find a very well frequented, and you wouldn’t believe it, comfortably furnished restaurant. We sit at a table with a hot plate in the middle on which we are allowed to prepare our own food. There is plenty of choice for meat and fish lovers. There is also a huge range on offer for vegetarians. Every guest is allowed to eat as much as they can. Including all drinks, starters and desserts, the culinary delight costs just 54 yuan (€7.46) per person. A dream for ravenous cyclists. It tastes absolutely delicious, I would even say it’s the best food we’ve had since we’ve been in China. So we weren’t promised too much that Sichuan is the country’s food paradise.

On the way back to our accommodation we enjoy the uniquely beautiful scenery and feel like we are in another world, a world in which there is only good and pleasant things…
