Day X is finally here! My friend Henkie comes to say goodbye and whispers “buen viaje mi amigo” into my ears. The influence of his family is not absent. He gives me two Dutch lucky charms for my caravan. Nothing can go wrong now, I think to myself. At some point I find myself in a train compartment. I curl up comfortably in front of Tanja & Denis’ bed. After a while I fall asleep with the awareness that I have managed to be very close to my people and to be on the great journey with them. A train change the next morning. The usual tour through the forest is simply not possible. And then we’re off the train again faster than I can see, I’m glad they didn’t forget me because everything was so hectic. Phone calls from my humans followed and an overnight stay in a dog-friendly hotel. Beef scalp is in my luggage, so all is right with the world. A sometimes confusing life as an expedition dog…
