Heart Camp – 22.06.2000

Petro decides to stay a few days longer. He would like to see how the new “L-frames” sit on the camels. He helps us with the rest of the work on the saddles and shows us some knotting techniques. Jo cuts strips from old car inner tubes, while Tanja and I saw pieces about 30 centimeters long from fence wire. We manufacture elastic straps from pieces of tubing cut from Jos. Petro bends hooks from the pieces of fence we have sawn to size. We tie the hooks to the tube straps and so we have wonderful and free elastic straps with which we can strap the equipment bags to the “L-frames”. Our camp looks like a workshop. Thank goodness Petro has the necessary tools in his jeep that we need out here in the bush to make everything. Everyone is busy and we produce like on an assembly line. The sun is shining, the mood is good and we look forward to the imminent departure with confidence.
