Why is Rohloff supporting the upcoming expedition project of Denis Katzer and his wife Tanja?

Tanja and Denis Katzer, on their 30-year expedition – nothing much new. And yet the means of transportation is completely different this time: an e-bike.

Equipped with an e-bike from the renowned Darmstadt-based bike company, you’re off on the next stage of your great journey. Always equipped with top materials, it was probably a logical consequence to use the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 as the drive unit. As is so often the case, the drive is the decisive factor in locomotion. The companies Riese und Müller and Rohloff have been working together successfully for several years. This cooperation is particularly popular in the touring bike sector. The 14-speed gear hub has long been setting standards in the touring bike sector.

The logical consequence of these parameters almost automatically leads to a collaboration between Tanja and Denis Katzer and Rohloff AG.

About Rohloff

A new decade in drive technology began in 1996. Rohloff presented the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 for the first time at the IFMA to mark the company’s 10th anniversary.

The idea had been ‘maturing’ at Rohloff for a long time, but it took a long time before it finally came to the first delivery in 1998. The idea behind it is as ingenious as it is simple. Once it was clear that the state of development of modern derailleur gears had reached a level of perfection that no further significant improvements could be expected, the idea of the SPEEDHUB was born. The aim was to develop a system that combines the advantages of derailleur gears (low weight, high efficiency, wide gear ratio range) while at the same time eliminating the disadvantages (high maintenance requirements, high sensitivity to dirt, rapid wear). This has been realized in exemplary fashion with the SPEEDHUB 500/14.

The SPEEDHUB 500/14 has now been in production for over 15 years and is sold in almost every country in the world. Since then, the number of people who enjoy it has risen steadily.

Over 200,000 cyclists worldwide now ride with the Rohloff drive.
Tanja and Denis Katzer have also been part of the team since spring 2004. This also reflects the importance of the Rohloff hub in the touring bike sector. More and more touring cyclists are opting for Rohloff gear hubs; the advantages are obvious: apart from the aforementioned, they require fewer spare parts (weight usually plays a major role) and hardly any care and maintenance. In short: driving instead of ‘working’.
