Rainy departure

On the morning of our departure, Father Andrew invites us to a farewell breakfast. As the service doesn’t finish until eleven o’clock, breakfast is accordingly late. We are in good spirits and don’t mind the thought of a late start. We haven’t planned too long a route.
We are allowed to sit down at a beautifully laid table. Seven nuns join us and sing beautiful songs… It doesn’t take long before there’s lightning and thunder. The sky empties out of huge buckets. It pours down in buckets for hours. It’s getting too late to leave and we retire to our rooms again. In the early evening we are visited by nuns and Anatol the builder. Denis is asked to tell a few more stories. I had already enjoyed the good listeners recently. Denis, as he talks about indigenous peoples and travel experiences with a lot of physical effort. Since there is no television and no radio, stories have a different status and quality. It rains cats and dogs all night long. Nature finally gets its long-awaited moisture.
Extreme heat and drought, then these torrential downpours. What other signs would we like to see in order to recognize the incredible speed at which climate change is progressing? What else do we need to be shown in order to finally take action? We need trees. Trees that act as green lungs and thus help to ensure a life worth living for future generations.
Mother Earth is alive.
