Printing company Lokay e.K.
We are delighted to be working with Tanja and Denis Katzer. Why
Tanja and Denis Katzer and Druckerei Lokay have something in common: a path taken out of conviction. Just as the two adventurers made a conscious decision one day to go their own way, so did we! More than 10 years ago, we decided to make our print shop sustainable. Without a firm conviction and a clear goal in mind, we would not be as successful as we are today. As with Tanja and Denis, our chosen path has now become a journey. Again and again we come to forks in the road – and opt for sustainability.
We are very happy to support Tanja and Denis with flawless, environmentally friendly print products. This is our small contribution to actively support the commitment and consistency of the two sustainable adventures.
BEST PRINT QUALITY FOR OVER 75 YEARS
Since 1932, Druckerei Lokay from Reinheim, now with almost 30 employees, has been producing high-quality print products for sustainably minded people from Germany and Switzerland. The Hessian print shop was even nominated for the European EMAS AWARD last year as “Environmental Print Shop and Family Print Shop of the Year 2010”. The company has examined and converted all processes, from the power supply and paper to the printing ink, for ecological improvements. For example, Lokay was one of the first climate-neutral print shops in Germany. All machines have been running for many years without the climate killer isopropyl alcohol and Lokay only uses mineral oil-free organic printing inks – to date, not even 10 percent of German print shops do this. The large Lokay paper collection of environmental papers was the first of its kind in Europe and is still exemplary today. It takes a lot of stamina to convert to a thoroughly environmentally friendly company, especially in the printing industry. Processes and actions must be constantly monitored and scrutinized. At Lokay, this process is supported by all employees. This works because the employees are enthusiastic about the cause. They are informed about every step, supported both professionally and personally and, above all, involved. The introduction of Germany’s first fleet of leased bicycles, for which Lokay has received numerous awards, was based on an idea from the employees’ environmental team. The print shop is also a pioneer in terms of EMAS certification. So far, less than one percent of competitors have dared to submit to the strict annual audit and reporting criteria. “Our customers from all over Germany buy from us because they receive flawless, ecologically credible print products,” says owner Ralf Lokay, explaining this step. But there is more to a model company than that. Lokay passes on his experience at specialist lectures, trade fairs and industry meetings. Printing companies from all over the world are looking to exchange ideas with the Hessian print shop. In the past two years alone, around 90 printers from South America and Japan have visited the company. This productive openness is part of Lokay’s mission not only to be the most environmentally friendly sheetfed offset print shop in Germany, but also to bring about a positive change in the industry in general.
