Mongolia 1996
Horse expedition through the land of Genghis Khan
With a total of 12 horses, a horse-drawn cart and several camels, we rode over 1,600 km through the highlands, the endless expanses and the Gobi Desert of Mongolia.
Huge herds of sheep, cattle and horses were our companions. We got to know a warm-hearted people and enjoyed their hospitality. We were also touched by Genghis Khan’s breath. We survived an attack and challenges that demanded inhuman things of us.
I recorded the extensive, informative and exciting travel experiences during the expedition. However, as we are constantly on the road and the treasure chest of stories we have experienced fills up almost to bursting point with each additional day of travel, I don’t have time at the moment to evaluate the notes and publish them here or in a book.
However, I am determined to write down our sometimes dramatic but also amusing experiences with a hospitable people living in a mercilessly harsh country at the next available opportunity.
Mongolia 1996 / Summer
Europeans crossed the central highlands of Mongolia for the first time in the last century. Tanja and Denis Katzer covered 1600 km with a total of 12 horses and a self-built horse-drawn carriage. An expedition that demanded inhuman things of them.
