A day in the present base camp

near Perth — 2000-01-10

An average day in our seven-day week described in brief words at present looks about as follows:

5:00 a.m.	Getting up with the first rays of the sun.
5:00 a.m. to 5:40 a.m.	Gymnastics in the tent to train my injured back.
5:40 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.	Sweeping the rugs in front of our caravan to remove the fine dust, grass and dirt carried here by the night’s wind.
6:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.	Fetching hay from the nearby barn and feeding the camels.
6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.	Morning toilet and breakfast.
7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.	Treating the camels with insect repellent against mosquitoes, feeding concentrated feed and cleaning the enclosure every other day.
8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.	Taking the camels to the large open-air enclosure to give them plenty of space to run.	\|9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.	Writing down the events for the book dealing with the preparations to the expedition that is planned to be published in April, or for magazine reports, or for our website www.denis-katzer.com.

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Shopping downtown for our living or for the expedition.

OR DURING TRAINING DAYS

8:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.	Training run with the camels in the near vicinity.
12:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.	Currying and watering the camels, leading them to the open-air enclosure.	\|1:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.	Writing down the events for the book dealing with the preparations to the expedition that is planned to be published in April, or for magazine reports, or for our website www.denis-katzer.com.	\|4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.	Taking the camels from the open-air enclosure to the smaller enclosure and feeding them with hay and concentrated feed.	\|5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.	Writing down the events for the book dealing with the preparations to the expedition that is planned to be published in April, or for magazine reports, or for our website www.denis-katzer.com.
7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.	Reading and answering e-mails. Telephone calls to Mike Tauer, our friend in Germany who keeps up the contacts with the media, or to Ute Wetzel and Thomas Trobisch who take care of our slides. Phone calls to family, friends and sponsors.	\|8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.	Dinner and rest from the strain of the day.	\|10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.	Going into the tent and gathering strength for the next day.
